Resilience: A record of economic
disruption and reinvention

Resilience 2010 Artwork--Initial Mural Segment

America’s economic turmoil has created a time of transition. Jobs and incomes have been lost. Industries devastated. At the same time there have been inspirational new opportunities. Second careers explored. New business ventures launched. Life’s priorities rediscovered.

This is the story of economic transition behind Resilience 2010.

The artists’ modular 14’w x 5'h mural records the impact on America’s workforce of the most difficult economic time since the Great Depression. Simple objects, like a scrap of paper from the floor of a shuttered factory and a battered welding mask, are being incorporated in mixed media. The human stories behind these vignettes, tales of disruption and reinvention, are available on computer screen as a living part of the exhibit.

Be sure to look over the ArtPrize website and see all the exhibitors and venues. Plan your gallery trip to Grand Rapids September 22 to October 10, we hope to see you! You'll see an amazing array of art in a wonderfully resilient city that is continually reinventing itself.
